Overview:

Networking event sponsored by Lehigh University Alumni Association of NYC. It was fitting that the first musical selection for this inaugural event was a bubbly, fast-paced Etude by Chopin. The wine chosen to match was a light Prosecco. Together it felt like the christening of ship racing off with its first passengers to destinations unknown. The pairing was appreciated by all, and the concept was as welcome as the generous pour that launched the guests into gabbing and getting details: “How did you play that?”; “Did you say it’s called the ‘black-key’ etude?”; “How is this different from Champagne?” Though a couple guests recognized the piece, they were all shocked to witness the acrobatic fingering on the piano at close range. Only the promise of another wine tasting and more music settled them in their seats for the remainder of the program as concert pianist, Elaine Kwon led the way through a journey of four more pairings and a reception to follow. This diverse set of alumni seemed to be strangers from different ages at the onset. By the end, the unsuspecting piano store clerk was having trouble breaking up the audience to close up shop! And Elaine had made her point: bringing beautiful music together with the right wines can make any occasion a celebration!!
